All of our coaches at The Barracks Gym have military experience.
We believe that it’s about more than just the fitness side of things. It’s about having a mentor. It’s about having people who have been where you are, know what you’re about to go through and can guide you through the process. However when it comes to the fitness side of things it’s imperative to have access to a coach that knows the following: 1. The CORRECT technique for exercises 2. How to conduct RELEVANT training for those exercises. 3. Knows what you’re about to go through at basic training 4. Can provide you with the right intensity of training to prepare you for basic training. 5. Has ‘been there, done that’. We often find that people are trying to find the ‘magic pill’ when it comes to coaches. That they are talking to a lot of different people, googling things, accessing facebook forums and talking to other applicants. This will do two things for you: 1. Provide you with a lot of information 2. Provide you with a lot of CONFLICTING information from a lot of different people. You need to find a coach that knows what they are doing, knows what you’re going through and can provide you with relevant training and accurate guidance. Think about it like this- a Pilates instructor probably knows how to do pushups and likely can do them quite well. But have they had experience with MILITARY standard pushups and do they know the correct technique that is required of you at your PFA? Have they been in the military before? Do they know what you’re about to experience at basic training? Have they conducted a PFA before? Probably not. You’re going to get all of that and more from a coach who has previous military experience and has served in the Army/ Navy/ Airforce prior to working as a coach. Think about where you would like to take your guidance from. Just because someone is offering up guidance and opinions doesn’t mean that it’s relevant. Get yourself a military specific fitness coach who can help you out with everything you need to prepare for the ADF. We know some pretty awesome coaches who can help you out in person AND online. If you want military coaches who are successful at improving your fitness for the ADF then please feel free to get in touch with The Barracks Gym.
