Have you set your goals for the new year yet? If you need some help... read on!NEW YEAR, NEW.... WHO?
So we are days away from a brand new year. 2020. A fresh start and a fresh perspective on where you’re heading now that 2019 is almost behind you. Do you have some goals for the new year? Traditionally, we all work on setting a ‘New Year’s Resolution’. Something that we are going to stop doing, start doing or do differently once the clock strikes midnight. However more often than not we wake up a bit hungover, tired, craving comfort food and the need to be a sloth for the day. So you tell yourself 'I'll start tomorrow’. This then continues until you get to about the 5th of January and give up on the resolution and go back to your old habits. HOW DO WE BREAK THIS CYCLE? Don’t set resolutions. That’s right. Don’t even worry about setting goals and putting that unnecessary pressure on yourself come the 1st of January. Set intentions. Intentions differ from resolutions as they are more achievable over a longer period of time. If you set a goal that must commence at a very specific time and the conditions you require for starting are not met, then you’ll push back the start of working towards that goal until you have those specific conditions in place. Which might never happen. If you set intentions then you are giving yourself a more realistic set of guidelines to be able to achieve something. Here’s an example: Resolution- I’m going to STOP chewing my nails on New Years Day. Intention- I’m going to work towards having nice nails in 2020 and the first step to achieving this is to try and stop chewing them. The pressure is significantly reduced. The intention is immediately broken down into smaller, more achievable goals. All of a sudden this goal seems much more realistic. Have a think about your intentions for 2020. Are they ADF related? Personal Development? Friendships & Relationships? Nutrition? Hobby? Fitness? Whatever they are, be realistic about them and think about how you’re going to break them down and work towards achieving them. 2020…. Let’s do this. If you need some motivation to help you kick start the new year, head on over to our podcast 'Becoming Badass' to hear the stories of other ADF applications going through the same things you'll be going through.
