Where is my motivation?  I'm trying to train for the ADF but I can't find any motivation.  Find out how to stay motivated to train for the Australian Army, Navy and Airforce.
How do you go about finding motivation?

Do you just wake up some days and feel more motivated than others?

Does watching certain videos or listening to certain music get you motivated?

The truth here is that a lot of these things WILL in fact motivate you. It might be enough to help you get your butt off the couch and off to your training session.

However it’s a short term fix.

You might be able to get yourself up and moving for 5 minutes but it’s fairly certain that you’ll come back home and slump back onto the couch and eat some sort of crappy food and spend the rest of the night sitting around watching Netflix.

‘Finding’ motivation is a band aid fix to what is essentially a bigger issue.

So how do we get around it?

There’s no point looking in your car boot to see if it’s hiding there. It definitely won’t be hanging on your Christmas tree. Motivation has to be generated.

How do you generate motivation?

You have to make your goal a priority. Your goal is joining the ADF however there is so much that is involved before you get to that goal.

You need to break it down into smaller goals that are easy to celebrate along the way. This will help you make your application a priority. You’ll be able to make your training a priority because every part of it will feel like it’s achievable.

'Celebrate the small wins'

Prioritise your application.
Prioritise your training.
Motivation will be generated BECAUSE it’s a priority. It’s how you WANT to spend your time. It’s what you want for your life.

If you’re struggling to find the motivation then it’s very likely you’re not prioritising your goals in the way you think you are.

It’s worth reassessing and realigning where you are at and how you’re spending your time.

Once you have realigned your priorities you will find that discipline helps you maintain this motivation. To learn more about Discipline vs. Motivation, click here.
