Everyone is struggling to get motivated to train. Is this you? Read on to learn more about the magic of motivation...
Motivation seems to be the newest buzz word now that we’re all training at home.
Not in a positive way either. No one can find their motivation. Everyone is struggling to get motivated to train. People are still angry that the gyms closed and that this upended their entire life. Everyone is asking everyone else how they find motivation to train. So many people are asking us how we find motivation to keep going when things get tough.
How, oh how, do I find my motivation??
Motivation is not a magic potion. Motivation doesn’t get more and more powerful the longer you search for it. Motivation isn’t served up to you in a bowl as part of a three course meal of ‘Motivation, Discipline and Consistency’. Motivation is not going come knocking on your door and say ‘Oh there you are, I was wondering where I would find you’!
Motivation is generated by that which you make a priority in your life. Motivation is what will get you started in the first place. Motivation is the reason you are here reading something on The Barracks Gym website. Motivation is what first gave you the idea to join the ADF or Police. Motivation is strongly linked to emotions and feelings. Motivation is a lot of things.
Motivation is what will get you started.
Discipline is what will keep you going every single day.
You don’t always have to be motivated to train but you DO have to enact the powers of discipline to ensure you are sticking to your training and remaining consistent each and every day.
Motivation isn’t some sort of sorcery. It doesn’t matter how hard you keep looking for it, how much you research, how many different people you ask and how you ask them. Motivation is simply the fire starter. The emotion in your brain that fires you up and makes you want to do something.
The energy that you continually put towards trying to find motivation could quite simply be put into creating discipline around your routine.
It’s like working from home and opening the fridge every half an hour to see if something new and more interesting has appeared. It doesn’t. Just like motivation. You can ask heaps of different people how to find it, you can read blogs, watch videos, follow influencers but the same thing will always ring true.
You need to be disciplined in order to remain consistent.
Try this. Tonight before you go to bed, make a plan for tomorrow and decide what time you want to train. Let’s say you choose 4pm. So at 4pm tomorrow, no matter what you're doing or how you feel or what you look like, you’re going to throw some tights on and go out and train. THAT is discipline.
